Giacometti et l'Égypte antique
Thierry PAUTOT
Résumé
Alberto Giacometti has always been fascinated by the art works of Ancient Egypt. Whether in his drawings, his sculpture or his painting, Egyptian art constitutes both a repertoire of forms and a source of inspiration essential to his practice.
From the statues of scribes and pharaohs to the portraits of the Fayum mummies, Giacometti, as an enthusiastic visitor to the Louvre, has examined all the periods of Ancient Egypt, maintaining a personal dialogue with that thousands of years old art.
Thanks to an exceptional collaboration with the Louvre museum, this dialogue will be pursued by confronting Giacometti's emblematic works, as well as numerous previously unseen drawings, with Egyptian statues. This richly illustrated exhibition catalogue offers an original rereading of Giacometti's art seen through the prism of Ancient Egypt.
